Travelling Treasures Project
Tourism students/staff at QMU might be interested to know that a professor at Edinburgh College of Art has designed a new App to help guide tourists around the city, using the registration numbers on taxis. The Travelling Treasures project will use taxi number plates to send information about museums and monuments in Edinburgh to passing tourists via smartphones. The pioneering project will initially cover eight council run venues around the city including the Museum of Edinburgh, the City Art Centre and the Scott Monument. When a taxi passes one of the venues, images, maps and information will be electronically ‘’tagged’’ to the taxi number plate. The project has been labelled the first step in what could become the ‘’internet on wheels’’.Visitors will be able to download the Travelling Treasures app on their smartphone.
